Wright-Phillips out for QPR run-in

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips will miss the remainder of the English Premier League season with an ankle injury.

The midfielder, who arrived at Loftus Road from Manchester City in August 2011, has made 22 appearances for the relegation-threatened club in all competitions this season but last featured as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 win over Sunderland on March 9.

Manager Harry Redknapp has revealed Wright-Phillips will be forced to watch the rest of QPR s battle to avoid the drop from the sidelines after undergoing surgery.

Shaun has had an operation, Redknapp told the club s website.

It needed doing; we tried to keep him going.

He s played with the pain and not felt 100 percent. He couldn t train or play to his maximum. The pain was too much and he will hopefully be back at the start of next season now.

We had wanted to try and keep him going but he couldn t carry on. When he has played he has done well but I don t think he felt he was capable of given his maximum. Hopefully he will come back fully fit and ready for next season.

QPR s next match is at home to Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
